For example, my father permitted us to join Hitler Youth and serve [in leadership] capacities without ever reprimanding us. I myself joined the Jungmädelschaft [Note 1] of Hitler Youth in January 1934 when I was 13 years old. I belonged to Hitler Youth or rather League of German Girls until 1941.
