Third interrogation of Katharina Schüddekopf

Munich, March 26, 1943

Schüddekopf Katharina, personal data known, was led out from police custody. She additionally stated:

I am no longer able to make useful [Note 1] statements. I have made my statements to the best of my ability and I am prepared to answer for them.

Remonstrance: You have repeatedly stated that you have not spoken about the leaflet “White Rose” with Lafrenz. Is it correct that you told Lafrenz that you suspected Scholl was author or distributor of the leaflets “White Rose”?

Answer: I must describe Lafrenz’s statement as incorrect. I never had any suspicions about Scholl, not even a hunch [Note 2]. I therefore could not have made such a statement. I believe that Lafrenz is in error regarding who may have made such a statement to her. I believe I can recall that we once considered the question as to whether Scholl could have been connected to the leaflet “White Rose”.

But during that conversation, I said [Note 3] that I thought Scholl was too unintelligent and immature for such things. I did not mean by that that Scholl was too immature for the production and distribution [of the leaflets]. My statement solely had to do with the content of the leaflets. I had the impression that Lafrenz did not believe Scholl was capable of the intrigues that later became known.

Question: Do you know an artist named Tröltsch? What do you know about him with regards to the Scholl matter?

Answer: Through Lafrenz, I met Tröltsch once at the end of November or beginning of December 1942. At that time, we were going to a restaurant to eat lunch. I never spoke about a single word of politics with that man. I know from Lafrenz that she had read aloud to Tröltsch, who had an ophthalmological illness. He has since died. I do not know whether Tröltsch knew about the leaflets. In any case, Lafrenz never told me about that. I also do not know whether Tröltsch associated with the Scholl circle or if any of them knew him more closely.

Question: Which seditious leaflets do you know anything about at all?

Answer: I only know about the third edition of the “White Rose” leaflet, as I have already stated. I have already described how I learned about it. I never received any other seditious leaflets or saw them in any other manner.

I do not know the leaflets I am now being shown (Call to All Germans, Fellow Students). I have never heard anything about the existence of such leaflets.
